Withrow Eco
May 2025
Even though at school we’re doing great, we could do better.
A few weeks ago, the kindies found so much garbage in our
playground! Most of the garbage seems to be from juniors who don’t
pick up their litter. While the eco club tries to find a solution to
this, we need to try our best to keep our school yard clean and
waste-free. Some ways you can help is if you have any litter, put it
in the 2 garbage cans we have in zone
Not only can you be eco-friendly at school, you can do the same
at home! One thing you can do is make your own pollinator garden!
A pollinator garden is for (SURPRISE!!!) pollinators such as bees,
butterflies and hummingbirds. Unfortunately, most gardens are sprayed with pesticides that can harm and hurt animals with their dangerous fluids. To make your yard a party for pollinators, make sure to only have native plants in your garden.
Get a few plants that bees and butterflies will like (examples
include: Milkweed, Sunflower, Cosmos, etc). But most importantly,
ask a parent or guardian before planting anything new.
Eco Facts:
-It’s estimated that there is 75-199 MILLION tons of trash
in our oceans by 2025.
-99.9% of animals that have ever lived are now extinct 😢
-The global average carbon footprint per person is around 4.8 tons of CO2 a year!
- Did you know that there are more plastic flamingos than real
flamingos!
- Did you know that more than 27,000 trees are cut down each
day!
-92 million tons of clothing are being wasted annually.
